Feather mobile

For the past year or so, I've been collecting feathers I find around my yard and from my trips to Uganda's game parks and villages.  I've collected some great feathers from Murchison Falls National park, Bulago Island, my yard, our girls' school, and Entebbe zoo, to name a few.  Then some friends, once they knew of my collection, started bringing me some great finds.  I now have feathers from ducks, guinea fowl, an African grey parrot, a great blue turaco, a maribu stork, a grey plantain eater, a chicken, and other un-identifiables.

A few months ago, I finally put it all my feathers together with a branch Eric found at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to make a feather mobile to hang at the end of our hallway.  I love that it brings another element of nature into our home.  I love that I know where each feather came from and it reminds me of different memories around Uganda, and I love that it's a work in progress that I can add on to whenever I find another great feather.

Feather-hunting is just another reason for me to pay attention to my surroundings in each small moment because you never know what you might find! It's like living a childhood scavenger hunt all the time!
